Everybody enjoying this wonderful change of temperature this past week? WE can’t help but find ourselves looking for every opportunity to get outside and enjoy the cooler air.
While we don’t have any outdoor specific activities listed in this week’s Franklin Scene, we have rounded up a few promising events that are worth checking out!
Out & About
Guess which wildly popular 70’s and 80’s band played at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center last weekend? That’s right- none other than Chicago. The band played many of their classics with the symphony to an excited and appreciative audience. After all, there’s not a bad seat in the house at that venue.
In that same vein – this weekend it’s Foreigner!
Franklin Factoid
The charm that is downtown Franklin owes much to the non-profit organization the Heritage Foundation. It started back in the 1960’s when a beloved historical home was torn down and a gas station erected in its place. That act so deeply affected a group of concerned residents that they got organized and established the foundation’s mission “to conserve the best of the past and to plan for the benefit of the future.”
Thanks to the Heritage Foundation, special preservation efforts have taken place to protect the numerous historical buildings and homes in the downtown Franklin area. Over time, the gaze has widened to include our beautiful rural and agriculture landscape as well.
Happenings For The Week Ahead
One of the many most well known and anticipated events for Williamson County is the annual Heritage Ball. Celebrating its 40th year, this benefit is one of the largest fundraisers The Heritage Foundation puts on.
All proceeds go to the Heritage Foundation and the evening is dedicated to highlighting an amazing farm to table menu that uses locally grown products. Contributing farms include Allenbrooke Farms, Bearcreek Farms, Delvin Farms and many more.
This year’s celebration will include a specially crafted cocktail as well, the Preservation Punch, created by GRAY’s on Main Beverage Directors, Jon and Lindsay Yeager. This mix of whiskey, fig, apple, orange and spices promises to welcome guests into fall., which officially starts on Sunday.
Americana Music Festival – September 18-22.This is 130 performances over 6 different venues. This is the 14th year for this event and the lineup includes acts such as Billy Bragg, Delbert McClinton and Justin Townes Earl. Get your wristband now.
Reading is Magic – This Saturday at the Williamson County Library kids can interact and read to a live horse. The Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses is a nonprofit that brings miniature horses to children that have experienced trauma or sickness as a form of therapy.
This weekend, bring your own child down to the library at 2:30 and watch their face light up when they see these petite horses in person.
If you are going to the Ball, please share your experience with us. We’d love to hear about it!
