What a lovely weekend in Franklin! Plenty to do and see on the Franklin Scene, and still warm enough to hit the pool for those who had access to one. The cSocially crew had various friend and family commitments and had to miss some things, but we heard about an awful lot going on in town. Apparently, our Franklin Art Scene is turning into quite the outing. The event is fun and family friendly and always worth checking out.  Tell me, did you go? How was it?

Out & About

Surely by now you’ve heard the big news: Keith Urban and Steven Tyler performed together at Tootsies to help promote Keith’s new album, Fuse. Apparently, Mr. Tyler was in Nashville all week and had made another unannounced appearance at Bluebird. Not sure about you, but we could get behind a surprise appearance trend in the area!

Franklin Factoid

Okay, so really this one is a Tennessee factoid. Did you know that we have a state amphibian? It’s true. Thanks to our natural resources, we are fourth in the nation for amphibian diversity.  Due to the large number of limestone caves and ponds, we are considered a veritable hot spot for salamanders and our state amphibian is the Tennessee Cave Salamander.

Salamanders are incredibly important for monitoring the habitat here in our state as their porous skin is sensitive to environmental toxins. To read all about the different types of salamanders and where you can spot them, check out the Tennessee Wildlife site.

Happenings For The Week Ahead

Kanagaroo

Not a salamander fanatic? Don’t worry – we have just the thing for you. The Nashville Zoo has kangaroos now! The grand opening for these intriguing animals is Saturday, September 14th.

The new 4,500 square foot habitat was designed to replicate an Australian landscape and the kangaroos are free to roam it. There is a path through the center for guest to observe them in their new environment.

kids raceBefore you hit the zoo, why not hit get your workout in? Saturday morning is also the Franklin 4 The Cure Race over at Westhaven.

This 5k and pancake breakfast event benefits Monroe Carroll Jr Children’s hospital at Vanderbilt. If you are not a runner you can still attend the Jeffrey Steele concert alter that night whose proceeds go to the cause as well.

TN STATE FAIR 2013Sunday  marks the last day for the Tennessee State Fair, held at the state fairgrounds.

This year it is bigger than ever with acts all over the spectrum. From Rollergirls to wrestling to acrobatics, there is something for everyone.

Our favorite is the Creative Arts building where crafters and artisans gather to display their amazing works and talents.
