Ergophobic

Who hasn’t had a day where they dread work? We all need a mental health day every now and again, to recharge our batteries and revive creativity. When it comes to social media, however, there’s no need to be ergophobic!

Don’t cower behind the computer screen, or crawl under your desk to escape a waiting Twitter feed, Facebook, or LinkedIn page. Take a break, go for walk, read a chapter of a book, or take the time to mime destroying your computer a la Office Space.

Once you’ve shook the fear out, remember Rome wasn’t build in a day. Don’t feel you have to gain 100 likes or 1000 followers in week or a month.

Katherine Hepburn famously said, “If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun.” Make your rules the kind that bend, and don’t be afraid to try something new. Create a blog and post about what makes you happy, join Pinterest just so you can collect boards of what you want your dream house, job, car, or life to be.

One of your social media outlets should be just about you. If you forget the fun, pretty soon you’ll have ergophobia, and for good reason. But when work becomes play, well, the sky is the limit!
